Meet the team

I formed Business 1st UK Ltd at the start of the new millennium in December 2000. Then I was a mother with two small children and therefore required a position which allowed flexibility around my working hours. Over the ensuing years, I have developed and grown the business into a successful Limited Company helping other businesses, large and small, local and global, with their accountancy and payroll requirements. I take pride in my adaptable approach to clients, working alongside them to suit their requirements because everyone wants something slightly different. At the heart of my business ethic is that I truly love my job, the bigger the challenge the better and love nothing more than a complex spreadsheet!

In my spare time, I love spending time with family and friends walking with our office dog Isla or getting to grips with a good book. I’m also a very keen ‘fair weather’ sailor and like Andrew enjoy our holidays together sailing the Greek Islands. Gardening also takes up a lot of my free time although I’m no Charlie Dimmock for those who remember her!

I joined the team at Business 1st, our holding company when I first met Emma over 14 years ago. Having had a successful career spanning multiple industries and disciplines in Sales, Marketing and Account Management I supported the payroll team in my spare time when required but have now moved into a full-time position heading up the Payroll side of the business alongside Emma.

One of my favourite aspects of the business is assisting both our new and existing client base, ensuring their needs and expectations are realised in a seamless and professional manner. I firmly believe that a lot of our success can be attributed to our approach, dealing with clients as people and not as a number on a spreadsheet. Everyone is different, we don’t offer a ‘one box fits all’ scenario rather we listen, we understand and only then do we put forward a solution that’s best suited to the client. In my spare time I’m a confirmed petrol head and love anything with a large engine in it but ironically also enjoy my holidays with Emma sailing in the Greek Islands being pushed along by nothing more than the wind. I also enjoy walks with Isla our office dog and trying to keep up to date with the gardening and maintenance requirements at home.

I’ve been a valuable member of the team now for many years supporting Emma and Andrew in a managerial capacity and dealing with clients on a day-to-day basis. I have a strong background in both accounts and finance gained over my many years in business. Working with the whole team is a real pleasure and although we work hard we also ensure that there’s some free time to occasionally let our hair down (sorry Andrew) and bond as a team.

Outside of the office, I love to spend time with my two beautiful children, and my partner Pete. As the children are still young, family time is so important to us with days out at weekends a must for us all.

I’m Isla and I think I’m the boss. In my 6 years with Business Payroll & Business 1st I’ve kept the team on their toes ensuring all post deliveries are announced loudly so as not to be missed. I supply the team with lots of cuddles and tail wagging but also recognise when we’re busy and then take to my bed to snooze through the complex work we carry out. The team say I’m a bit of a distraction but I can’t help being cute, I was born this way! My main function is to ensure the team is happy and to help out where I can although I’m not on the drinks rota as having paws not fingers thankfully precludes me from this mundane task! 🐾

As a team we’re incredibly lucky to be able to work from our offices within our 400 year old farm house. Set in its own grounds it offers a beautiful tranquil environment in which to work and offers us immediate space to expand if the need arises. Having this beautiful facility allows us to keep our overheads to a minimum as we don’t have to pay for high priced city centre office space with the costs of such being ultimately passed on to our clients.
